More About Who We Are
Our church went through a process several years
ago which led us to find out more about ourselves. It allows us to speak more clearly
about ourselves and to see ourselves more clearly also. We share these ideas with you
here:
This church exists for the purpose of proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ in word and
action in the Twin Falls area and the world. Empowered by the presence of the Holy Spirit,
we will be a living example of God's love in and for the world.
We believe that our traditional worship is the most important role of service in our
church. As such, our goal is to provide a worship service rich in the spoken word, music
and fellowship so that all who participate may experience God?s presence. The worship
experience will be meaningful, provocative, scripturally founded, and relevant to those we
serve. We would use our skills, talents, and resources to bring Christ alive through
music, drama, preaching, confession, prayer and the sacraments of baptism and communion.
Preparing members to share their faith verbally and in action will be a major goal of our
evangelism. We will establish an out-reach program that seeks to minister to non-churched
people in the community. A generous policy on the use of the facilities by community
groups will continue.
Our Christian education program shall be inclusive, timely, creative, and scripturally
based. Our classes will teach the participants how to think about life and world events
from a Christian perspective, and encourage thinking, questioning and healthy dialogue. We
will provide opportunities for spiritual growth and fellowship to our members and friends
at all stages of life.
We are proud of our diverse programs encompassing community service, education,
fellowship, and music. Those in need are touched by our Deacon's Christmas gift program,
year-round emergency aid dollars, Crop Walk, and thrift store. Our doors are open to a
variety of local organizations such as Red Cross blood drives, Twelve Step groups, Scout
groups, Crisis Center, and youth theater groups. We offer comprehensive and creative
Christian educational programs for children, youth (currently held with the Lutheran
Church), and adults. We foster friendships through fellowship programs that include
Presbyterian Women, men's groups, Fireside luncheon group, "dinner for eight,"
summer picnic groups, Annual Talent show, and International potluck. Our congregation
celebrated its first hundred years in 2005. Musically, we are blessed with an excellent
chancel choir, youth and adult handbell choirs, piano and organ instruction.
Together we completed a major capital campaign in 2000, raising $750,000. With these gifts
we remodeled our facilities and built a cabin for a local homeless shelter. Our sanctuary
was completely remodeled, we installed a large elevator for access by all worshippers, the
organ was rebuilt, we added an inviting vestibule to the entrance, updated the
landscaping, and remodeled our Fellowship Room where we hold dinners, receptions, and
other gatherings. A gifts and endowment program was recently established to encourage
future generosity and growth.
Both the lay leadership and congregation are strongly committed to personal Christian
growth and demonstrating God's love through service in our community and world. Worship
(ages infant to 90+) is visitor-friendly and provides a close-knit, supportive atmosphere.
Our traditional form of worship, music, and fellowship has been our strength. Recognizing
that, we commit ourselves to excellent, fulfilling presentation of the Word. Music has
always been an important part of our worship service. The Chancel Choir provides music in
a variety of styles. The Hallelujah! 5 octave handbell choir and Light! Youth Bell Choir
regularly ring for services. Throughout the year, musicians from our congregation as well
as guests from the community provide special music selections. A very fine Robert Dial
pipe organ and Steinway grand piano are located in the sanctuary.
We have a large, recently renovated, debt-free facility located in historic downtown Twin
Falls. It contains a 300-seat sanctuary, fellowship hall and kitchen, offices, adult and
children's libraries, fireside room, chapel, gymnasium, nursery, and a number of
classrooms. Ramps and an elevator make nearly all the facility accessible to all.
We believe our history reflects a commitment to the changing needs of our members and the
community at large. During this time of transition, a special closeness and a sense of
purpose has developed among our members and friends. The roots go deep and the foundation
is strong.
