Music
The Chancel Choir at First Presbyterian Church is a vital
part of our worship environment. The choir, under the direction of Melanie Halsell, provide inspirational anthems
each week and special music for holidays and Holy days. The Chancel Choir meets each
Sunday morning from 8:30 9:30 in the sanctuary to prepare anthems for worship
services. Our yearly schedule begins in
September and finishes in May. Membership in the group is open to anyone in grade 9 or
above who loves singing and good fellowship. Experience
is helpful, but not required, and our group represents a great cross-section of
experienced singers and newer members. No
audition is required to join the group. Child
care is provided in the nursery during the Sunday morning rehearsal. Accompaniment is provided by our organist, Barbara Mix using either our pipe organ or our piano.
Our musical staff is supported in the sanctuary by a Steinway
Grand Piano (1995) and many well maintained and tuned pianos throughout the facility and
practice rooms. Our organ is wonderful 3-manual Robert Dial Pipe Organ with 33 ranks,
which was installed in 1997.
Part of our rich musical tradition in our Church is carried
by our handbell choir, Hallelujah Handbells, under the
direction of Barbara Mix. Our handbell set is a five octave set of Whitechapel Handbells
and have been in a part of our Church since 1955. This is the most complete set of
Whitechaple bells in Twin Falls and the Magic Valley area. In addition to the bells, our
handbell choir uses 5 1/2 octaves of Malmark Choirchimes. Our handbell choir adds to our
worship each month with particular emphasis on Advent, Christmas and Easter.
Our congregation appreciates a wide variety of music and
enjoys special music from musicians from the congregation and guests. Throughout the year
our worship is enhanced by soloists, small ensembles and large groups.
